Paylater Uganda Limited, subsidiaries and affiliates, agents, or assigns (collectively, "Paylater," "we," "us," or "our") provide products and services through our website (www.paylaterug.com) and the Paylater mobile applications (collectively, the "Site"). Paylater is committed to protecting your privacy, and we have created this privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") to make sure you know what information we collect and how we use it.

By using the Site, you expressly consent to the collection, storage, disclosure, and use of your information as outlined in this Privacy Policy, and you agree to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. If you do not consent to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not continue to access or use the Site or apply to lease a product.

Please note that we do not offer our products and services to anyone under the age of 18. If you are under the age of 18, do not use or register for an account on our Site.

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through our Site only, and not to information we may collect offline or through other sources.

How Do We Collect Information – What Do We Collect?

We may collect information from you including, but not limited to, information provided and/or obtained when you: (a) lease or rent any products or apply to lease or rent any products; (b) order, return, or exchange products; (c) contact us through our Site or using a social media platform such as Facebook; (d) sign up to receive emails, mobile messages, or social media notifications from us; (e) enter a contest or sweepstakes on our Site; or (f) provide comments, suggestions, or other input.

We collect personally-identifiable information ("PII") about you as well as information about your use of the Site. Except as otherwise explained in this Privacy Policy, we may combine the non-personally identifiable information that we automatically collect from you with your PII.

We may use the PII we collect for the following purposes:

  • Inferences: drawn from PII to create a profile about a consumer reflecting the consumer’s preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.
  • Any Other Information: information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household, including, but not limited to, the following if it identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or could be reasonably linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household.

We collect this information from a variety of sources, sometimes from you directly, sometimes indirectly through our business partners, service providers, and other third party data sources.

Cookies and Other Tracking Technology 

We use "cookies" (small data files stored on your computer) and other tracking technologies to collect information about your visit to our Site. The cookies and tracking technologies we use do not capture PII. The information that is captured about your visit may be used in a variety of ways across multiple devices, such as to monitor and maintain information about your visits to our Site, to help us identify and address problems with and to improve our Site, to analyze web traffic trends, and to help protect the security and integrity of our Site. Our website may also use a website recording service that may record mouse clicks, mouse movements, page scrolling and any text keyed into website forms. Data collected by this service is used to improve our website usability. The information collected is stored and is used for aggregated and statistical reporting and is not shared with third parties.

Other companies may also place cookies or web beacons on our Site.  We do not have access to or control over these cookies.  These companies may help operate our Site or provide you with additional products and services.  Certain functionalities related to the provision of additional products and services require marketing companies to share website usage information about visitors to the Site, who have received a targeted promotional campaign, with a reputable third-party advertising company for the purpose of targeting future campaigns and upgrading visitor information used in reporting statistics. To this end, our third-party advertising companies may note some of the pages you visit on the Site through the use of pixel tags.

Google Analytics & Remarketing

This Site uses Google Analytics, a service that transmits website traffic data to Google servers. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand website traffic and web page usage.

This Site also uses Remarketing with Google Analytics to advertise online. Third-party vendors, including Google, may show our ads on websites across the Internet.  We and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the Double Click cookie) together to inform, optimize, and serve ads based on your past visits to our Site.

 

How Do We Use Collected PII?

We may use the PII we collect for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your inquiries, fulfill your requests, and facilitate collecting payments;

  • For debugging to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality.

  • For internal research for technological development and demonstration.
  • To undertake activities to verify or maintain the quality or safety of a service or device that is owned, manufactured, manufactured for, or controlled by us, and to improve, upgrade, or enhance the service or device that is owned, manufactured, manufactured for, or controlled by us.

We may use the non-personally identifiable information that we collect for our general business operations, to maintain the quality of our services, and to provide general statistics regarding our customers' use of the Site.

How Do We Protect Your PII?

We implement a variety of industry standard security measures to maintain the safety of your PII, including encryption technologies. When you provide us with certain types of PII, such as financial information, we redirect you to a secure server. At our facilities, we implement security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of information that we have collected from you on the Site. Unfortunately, no security technology is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your PII. You should remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. To protect the security of your information, we may require you to authenticate your identity to conduct certain transactions using our services. Do We Disclose Your PII To Third Parties?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your PII to third parties without your consent or unless disclosed in this Privacy Policy.   We may disclose your PII to trusted third parties who assist us in operating our Site, processing transactions, conducting our business, or providing services or offers that we feel may be of a benefit to you, so long as these parties agree to keep this information confidential, consistent with this Privacy Policy.

We also may disclose PII to third parties: (a) when we have reason to believe that such disclosure is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) our rights or property, customers or other visitors to this Site, or anyone else who could be harmed by such activities;  (b) to respond to judicial process, provide information to law enforcement agencies, in connection with an investigation on matters related to public safety, as permitted by law, or otherwise as required by law; or (c) in the event of a merger, acquisition, consolidation, change of control, or sale of all or a portion of our assets or if we undergo bankruptcy or liquidation.

We may report information about your account to credit bureaus.  Late payments, missed payments, or other defaults on your account may be reflected in your credit report.  Non-personally identifiable information collected at this Site may be provided to third parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

You authorize us to communicate your lawful consent to your wireless to disclose your mobile number, name, address, email, network status, customer type, customer role, billing type, mobile device identifiers (IMSI and IMEI) and other subscriber status details, if available, for our use solely to allow verification of your identity and to compare information you have provided to us (and certain third parties) with your wireless operator account profile information for the duration of the business relationship.

How Do You Stop Receiving Marketing and Other Communications?

Collection and Use of Bank Account Information

As part of our information collection process, we may receive information about bank accounts owned by you from third-party service providers.  We consider information about these accounts to be part of the application process. By applying for our services, you authorize us to search for and evaluate bank accounts owned by you for this purpose.

We also use third party providers to gather your data from banks and other financial institutions. By applying for our services, you grant us the right, power, and authority to act on your behalf to access and transmit your personal and financial information from the relevant financial institution. You agree to your personal and financial information being transferred, stored, and processed by these third parties.
